Welcome to the latest round-up of lateral partner moves in the London legal market from Edwards Gibson.
As we start the New Year, a brief look back at November and December 2012 shows that the London lateral partner market is sharply down, with just over 40% fewer moves announced than during the same period last year. In part this is explained by the long lead-in times corresponding to a dearth of recruitment activity during the summer Olympics in London – when just about everybody seemed to be out of town.
Unlike assistant hires, the lateral partner market is not directly tied to (positive) economic activity; and, with more law firm consolidation in the air, it will be interesting to see how the partner market of 2013 compares to 2012.
