Edwards Gibson Double Citation in Law360!

November 2025

Edwards Gibson is delighted to have featured in two separate articles from Law360 in November 2025.  Market-leading data from its 89th edition of Law Firm Partner Moves in London has been extensively cited in an article written by Marialuisa Taddia for Law360. The piece, titled "London Partner Moves Surge 12% In Post-Summer Rebound”, features Edwards Gibson data to highlight the continued momentum and record-breaking number of partner moves in the two months leading up to 31st October.

According to our research, there were 140 partner moves in London during September and October 2025 — a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This figure is also 26% above the five-year average and 45% higher than the 10-year average for the same two-month period.

The article details the firms most active in the market, with Eversheds Sutherland and Orrick leading the way, each hiring six partners. Meanwhile, Paul Hastings is cited as having lost the highest number of partners to rival firms, bringing their total losses to seven.

In a separate article by Law360, Edwards Gibson is pleased to share that Director Scott Gibson has again been quoted by Marialuisa Taddia in “UK LLPs Face Reduced NICs, But Equity Partners Still At Risk”. The article explores the potential implications of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ proposed changes to National Insurance contributions (NICs) for members of UK LLPs.

The piece highlights how foreign LLPs — including those used by several US law firms operating in London — may remain exempt from these changes, potentially accelerating the talent drain from UK firms to their US counterparts. Director Scott Gibson provides a critical perspective, commenting:

“Foreign LLPs, including those used by a number of US firms in London, are already exempt from the ‘salaried member rules’ introduced in 2014, which require certain salaried or fixed-share partners in UK LLPs to be treated as employees for tax purposes.”

This exemption, as Gibson notes, already creates a “home turf handicap” for UK LLPs, a point which Edwards Gibson recently wrote about here. If the new NIC proposals are applied in a similar fashion, the disparity could be dramatically magnified — reshaping partner recruitment and compensation strategies across the legal sector.
