January 2023: Edwards Gibson’s 72nd Partner Moves report featured in Law360
We are pleased to be featured in Law360’s article ‘Partner hiring poised for slowdown after busy 2022’.
The article puts a spotlight on our key statistics for our November-December 2022 period, which also includes our yearly round-up, summarising the market trend of being “searing-hot” in the first half of the year, followed by a softened second half. Law360 also highlighted the recent boom in London hires by Magic Circle firms, hiring 21 London-based partners for 2022, where the average number of hires are usually between four and eight in London each year.
With economic uncertainty, director Scott Gibson’s predictions of 2023 were discussed in the article, including the slowdown in demand for legal services due to highly elevated fixed costs, and associate salary wars on both side of the Atlantic, “will unfortunately result in a significant number of associate redundancies in 2023”.
